What is Labial Puff?

Labial puff is a cosmetic procedure where autologous fat or dermal fillers like hyaluronic acid or collagen is injected into the labia majora (outer lips) of the vulva.

Why is labial puff performed?

There are several reasons to perform a labial puff procedure:

• To restore volume and tonus loss due to aging, childbirth or sudden weight loss due to bariatric surgery etc
• To provide a more youthful and smooth appearance
• To offer additional padding for activities such as sexual intercourse or cycling
• Additional benefit of labial puffing with autologous fat transfer is vulvar bleaching and rejuvenation due to stem cells found in fat tissue.

Who is a good candidate for labial puff?

Following patients are good candidates for a labial puff procedure:

How is labial puff performed?

Labial puff is performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia with or without sedation. There is usually minimal downtime and the patients may go on with daily activities right after the procedure especially after hyalurunic acid injections. After autologous fat transfer, more rest may be needed because of the liposuction procedure.

Several injections are made on the labia majora. Since the aera is numbed by local anesthesia, the patient does not feel any pain during the procedure.

Is labial puff permanant?

Labial puff is not permanant.Results may last months to years depending on the material used. Especially with autologous fat, additional rejuvenating effects will persist due to stem cells found in the fat tissue. When the fat transfer is repeated several times, rejuvenating effect of stem cells will be more obvious and persistant.

The volume and tonus increase is transient, and will decrease gradually as the material is absorbed by the body.

What are the fillers used for labial puff?

Common fillers used for labial puff are:

Autologous fat: Patients’s own fat is derived by liposuction and prepared to be injected into tha labia majora.Liposuction is used to extract fat from donor areas like the abdomen or thighs. There is a purification process afterwards.The harvested fat is processed to ensure only healthy fat cells and stem cells are used. The purified fat is injected into the labia majora in a homogenous manner.

Hyaluronic acid fillers: (Juvederm or restylane).These are synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers just like the ones used for facial rejuvenation, but are used in higher volumes.

Which filler should be preferred for labial puff?

Each filler has its own advantages. All fillers are temporary which means they need to be repeated around 12 months later, if you are happy with the result.

The advantage of autologous fat transfer is that it contains stem cells, which have furher rejuvenating and vulvar bleaching effect. These stem cells stimulate new collagen and new vessel formation in the vulva. The disadvantage is that a small liposuction procedure is necessary to harvest fat tissue from your thighs or abdomen. The liposuction may cause additional pain, swelling and brusing in the thighs or abdomen.

The advantage of synthetic hyaluronic acid filler is that there is no need for a liposuction procedure.

Do you need anesthesia for labial puff?

Labia puff procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Sedation is not general anesthesia. During sedation certain medications are given through an iv line and the patient does not feel or remember anything about the surgery. She can have some rest at the clinic and continue with daily activities after surgery.

How long does the effects of labial puff persist?

Labial puff is not permanant. Results may last months to years depending on the material used.

Does labial puff improve quality of sex?

It may improve the quality of sexual life in an indirect way by increasing self esteem in women who have concerns about the look of their genitelia.

Is labial puff painfull?

Labial puff is not painful because it is perfomed under local anesthesia with or without sedation. After the procedure there is usually slight tenderness or feeling of fullness and very mild discomfort.

For labial puff with autologous fat, you may experience some pain at the liposuction sites which can be releived by painkillers prescribed by your surgeon.

What is the downtime for labial puff ?

The downtime for a labial puff procedure is generally minimal, but it can vary depending on the individual and specifics of the procedure.

How is the recovery after labial puff?

Immediately after the procedure, swelling and bruising are common, especially during the first 48 hours. You can use ice packs in an on and off manner to decrease swelling, and bruising. You may experience mild discomfort or feeling of fullness in the vulva. Slight tenderness or redness at the injection sites is also a normal finding.

You need to have a rest for 1-2 days after the procedure. Most people can return to light activities within 1-2 days.You should avoid any activies such as heavy exercise, sexual activity or sitting for long periods during the first few days after the procedure.

The swelling usually starts to subsideafter a few days and should mostly be göne after about 1-2 weeks.

After autologous fat transfer, minor swelling may persist for upto a month. Results can continue to settle into place for several weeks.

With hyaluronic acid fillers, results are immediate, but any residual swelling or bruising can still last a little longer.

How is the aftercare of labial puff?

• Ice packs are recommended to decrease swelling and bruising during the first few days
• Avoid tight clothing that may rub against the treated area
• If liposuction was performed, it is recommended to use compressive clothing or socks surrounding the liposuction area
• Keep the area dry and clean
• Do not have waxing, laser epilation or shaving for the first 6 weeks.

How many days do international patients need to stay in Turkey for a labial puff procedure?

International patients need to stay in Turkey about 2-7 days after the procedure depending on their condition. They will have a follow up visit at our clinic before leaving Turkey.

They may still have swelling and bruising in the area before flight. They should avoid wearing tight clothes and sitting for long hours during flight.

How do I make an appointment for labial puff at your clinic?
